RPG maker is kinda like a game in itself but it is an engine just simplified for people who are not as educated on engines, it is actually really neat and easy to use I am using it at the moment to create an RPG not sure what to name it yet though, if you wanted to you can create your own textures and or objects here is what it looks

As you can see it is very simple it even comes with textures all ready with it, to be honest when I get a custom texture i don't make it I just search up a texture for whatever the texture is and then put it in the RPG maker mv folder which then you go to textures and put it there, I think it can be hard to use sometimes but once you get used to it, it is one of the most easy engines you can use. The original date for the very first RPG maker was 1995 on PC and PlayStation you can not use custom textures on the console versions of the game which kinda sucks but what can you do right but it would be cool if they implemented a way to do that in console versions that would make me very happy, Plus with all the things you can do on the PC version the console version kinda well sucks and should be massively improved but again it's not terrible but not good either so in my opinion if you want to use RPG maker use the PC versions of them there much better my experiences so far have been really good and if you don't want to make an RPG you can play other people's! here is a link to the official RPG maker page: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/
